Underground tunnel system in Telč
This unique underground tunnel system is located right below St. Zacharias of Hradec Square in Telč. It was opened on 6 September 2014. Since that date, thousands of visitors used the chance to have a look into this unique site.
The underground tunnels and cellars are not only below the square but also below a part of the Telč Castle. The mediaeval underground system consists of single-level of multi-level cellars that are connected through complex of tunnels and their 150 metres are accessible to the public.Crooked underground system in Telč was used mostly for storage of goods and food but sometimes also as a shelter for the town´s inhabitants who needed to hide from invading enemies. Many of these tunnels are legend-braided. According to one of these legends, the town´s defenders may have fled the town through these tunnels out of which one was said to lead to the distant Roštejn Chateau.

The visitors are informed very entertainingly and interestingly about the town and its underground via interactive multimedia exposition right in the underground tunnels. The visitors may explore the underground in its rough state and walk below the whole perimeter of Telč´s square. The tour also includes the reconstructed inner space that offers the presentation of the town of Telč, its surroundings and the milestones in its historical development via modern projecting technology.
Telč underground system – conception of multimedia exposition
Telč underground system´s conception of multimedia exposition has for its intention to inform and entertain with the aid of highly developed technologies. Whole exposition is designed as a lively project that may be enriched not only by the town´s inhabitants but also its visitors.
There is a lot to see and hear in the underground tunnel system
Mist screens with projection, town´s natives´ testimonies, 3D animation of the underground and houses above it, the passage through the whole town, animation about the town´s foundation and many others.
Half-circle projection with an examples of collected documentation from Telč and its surroundings made by the director Daniel Svátek. Acoustic corridor with extracts of music composed in Telč or the town´s legends, poems and literature.
Interactive floor with the effects that highlight the development and gradual transformation of the town and its surroundings in the course of time. Multi-touch interactive table functioning as an active databank and a kind of connector of all the other technologies of the exposition (it contains the database of all the data from the other technologies). That includes historical maps, documents and videos, current photographs and interactive maps of the whole region.
